The federal government of Nigeria has approved the reopening of schools across the country. However, the approval was given for students in graduating classes such as JSS 3, SSS 3 and primary 6 so as to prepare them for exams. This was made public by Bashir Ahmad, the presidential aide on new media.
NIGERIA EXTENDS PHASE 2 OF EASED LOCKDOWN BY 4 WEEKS
Following the recommendation of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the following:
- Phase 2 of Eased Lockdown will be extended for another 4 weeks (June 30 - July 27).
- Interstate Lockdown lifted with effect from July 1, 2020. Only outside curfew hours. Permission of movement across State Borders outside of curfew hours, from July 1.
- The SAFE REOPENING of domestic aviation services "as soon as practicable."
- The SAFE RE-OPENING of schools ONLY FOR STUDENTS IN GRADUATING CLASSES (Primary 6, JSS3 and SSS3), to allow them prepare for examinations (Common Entrance, Junior and Senior WAEC and NECO).
- All Daycare and Primary schools to remain closed until further evaluation, except for Common Entrance pupils.
- Secondary and Tertiary Schools to remain closed. Arrangements to be made for exiting JS3 and SS3 students to resume as soon as possible for preparation for exams.
